Faith for today

I am here spending time reading the bible. Reading about freedom in Christ. What a marvelous concept. I know I have spent years wasted trying to justify myself through good behaviour. Galatians chapter five tells me that those who try to justify through the law are alienated from Christ and have fallen away from grace. How many places I have been that teach everyone to do the right thing. They feed this legalistic idea that behaviour determines ones worth. If you act right you must be right.

The apostle Paul tells us in Galatians that the only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. How can we not be right if our faith in Jesus is being expressed in non-selfish love. If we truely love Jesus and seek him his grace will generate what is right in our lives. Evidence of that is love, joy peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. These come from a life lived through grace not from the law.

We must remember though that living in grace does not allow us to do whatever we want. It is not a license to be selfish. Let grace direct your actions and attitudes and the love of God will generate the right behaviour in you as you let it change your life.
